Charlemont Capital Development Project (C3)

Our charity has been based at the Kuumba Centre in West Bromwich since the year 2000 and it has served us well for many years.  However, as the charity grew the centre had become too small for our purposes and the idea to acquire an asset transfer came to mind after consideration of other potential accommodation possibilities were found to not be workable. Following a competitive process where we submitted a business case for consideration and assessment Sandwell Council cabinet members votes for us to take on Charlemont Community Centre.  The existing building was deemed to be at the end of its commercial life and with the council’s permission the building was demolished in June 2025. A consultation was held which led to the setup of a project team who worked on the business plan, design of the new building and secured £1,020m to pay for the build.

We remain committed to the Charlemont Community and as such our staff team have commenced and continue to work with members of the tenant’s and residents’ association and the lead person for liaison is the Chair of the tenant’s and residents’ association.

Funding has been secured from six funders they are as outlined and we are appreciative of their support for this capital build.

The asset transfer coupled with other work streams will enable us to get closer to our goal of financial sustainability and a reduced reliance on statutory grant funding.  Follow our progress as we look to complete the build by November 2026.
