Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation recently partnered with a Senior User Researcher from NHS England to support the development of new NHS online services, as highlighted by BBC News. This opportunity reflects SACMHF’s ongoing commitment to ensuring community voices are represented in the future of digital healthcare.
The session centred on Black, African and Caribbean communities, creating space for participants to share their experiences of accessing healthcare online. Open discussions explored what works well, the challenges faced, and what changes are needed to improve accessibility and inclusion.
Key themes included digital exclusion, accessibility barriers, and the importance of trust in online health services. These insights provide valuable guidance for shaping more inclusive NHS digital design and ensuring services better meet the needs of diverse populations.
The initiative demonstrates the importance of meaningful collaboration in building equitable healthcare systems. Feedback from NHS researchers was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the impact of engaging directly with lived experience.
Our Operations Manager received overwhelmingly positive feedback from NHS researchers, which reinforced just how impactful it is to listen directly to the voices of the communities most affected.
“We would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation. Through collaboration and shared learning, we are helping to shape NHS online services that work better for everyone.”
