Willowbrook Care Home raise funds for Kuumba Centre by holding a Summer BBQ

Kuumba Centre were very humbled to collect a cheque from Willowbrook Care Home this year and would like to say a huge thank you for their amazing fundraising efforts in helping to support the vital services we provide at Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation.

Barry Flanagan, Willowbrook Care Home Registered Manager said: “Every year, Willowbrook Care Home puts on a fantastic BBQ. On the 13th August 2022, we held our first one since the Covid-19 Pandemic. We chose a Caribbean theme this year and decided to make it a fundraising summer fete with the proceedings going to the Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation.  As a care home that looks after individuals with mental health illnesses, we felt that it was befitting to donate the funds to a local charity or foundation.

The weather on the day certainly paid homage to the Islands of the Caribbean as the sounds of the live band rang out over Willowbrook from the steel band and DJ.

The children brought laughter, running around with their painted faces and had a go on the pinatas. The essence of the chef’s Caribbean specialties were prepared by the talented Duane and Sophia, which were delicious.

There was even a spot for our brave managers who bared the odd leg or chest hair with grimaced faces to be waxed for donations.

We are very proud of all our staff, residents and relatives who made the day special and raised an amazing £605.00 for the worthy Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation.”
