Celebrating International Women’s Day with A Reflexology Workshop

We celebrated International Women’s Day this year, which took place on 8th March 2024. The campaign this year was Inspire Inclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.

Kuumba wanted to do something different this year to celebrate – so we invited our friend Pavla Hulobova who is a level 5 trained reflexologist to inspire some of our women to learn all about the benefits of reflexology and how it can help your mental and physical health!

Our ladies had a very relaxing and knowledgeable session on reflexology and even learnt some of the basic techniques from Pavla on how to nurture and ease some of those aches or pains you may have. Our service user Gina also won a complementary reflexology treatment as part of our raffle – well done Gina, enjoy!

Here’s what Pavla had to say about reflexology and how she found leading the workshop:

Pavla said: I’ve been a reflexologist for nearly 5 years. I’ve always been passionate about helping people and reflexology was a new/alternative way for me to help them. I felt empowered through reflexology as it is a completely natural way of healing itself and restoring balance and harmony.”

What are some of the benefits of reflexology in terms of helping us as women or some of the problems we may face and how could it help?

   – Hormonal imbalance – hormones are related to conditions such as menopause, menstrual problems, PCOS, endometrioses, fibroids.

  – The above could then be related to Fertility issues – through balancing the hormones, reflexology help increase fertility.

– Pregnancy and maternity  – helping with symptoms, help relieve discomfort during pregnancy, healthy pregnancy, and birth aftercare.

– Headaches, migraines (which can be caused by hormonal imbalance as well as stress, or tensions in the body)

– Help in relaxation

– Promotes better sleep

– Improves mental health – anxiety, low moods – reflexology energies

– Improves blood circulation and nerve function and many more!

Why is it important for us as women to look after our physical and mental health with reflexology?

“To a reflexologist, everything is deeply linked throughout the body. Reflexology is a very individualized treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, considering both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.

E.g. sleep disorders and insomnia can be triggered by or linked to mental health problems that reflexology may be able to alleviate. Sleep deprivation in turn can exacerbate other illnesses and conditions, so tackling any emotional issues that may be contributing to your insomnia can improve your overall health significantly.

Just an example how everything is linked – reflexology treats holistically – physical, mental and spiritual needs of the individual, that’s why it’s so magical.

How did you enjoy the workshop and would you come back again?

YES! and YES! I absolutely loved it, the energy and everyone being so engaged and wanting to learn and listen. I would love to give my treatments to the ladies, it would be my absolute pleasure.

A big thank you to Pavla for sharing her knowledge and experiences – we are inspired! Don’t worry men – Pavla will be holding another workshop in the future for you too!
